Wireless medical devices have become ubiquitous within the healthcare industry. The need for electronic medical records almost necessitates that any device connected to a patient must also be connected to a network. Having nearly a decade pass since the ratification of the IEEE 802.11b standard, wireless network connectivity of medical devices has become a lucrative and popular option. ABI research predicts that Wi-Fi in healthcare will total $4.19 billion in 2014, an increase of 70 percent from today’s figure. Auditor General of Canada makes Recommendations to Infoway on Contracting and Reporting of EHR Projects

A recent audit report on the Canada Health Infoway (Infoway), carried out by the Auditor General of Canada (OAG), has indicated that Infoway has accomplished much from its inception eight years ago. The OAG, who started an audit in February 2008, made recommendations to Infoway to enhance its public reporting control, goods and services contracting, project deliverables documentation, apart from technical suggestions related to ensuring compliance with standards. Alexandria, VA-based Surescripts™, the national e-prescription network, has announced its intent to adopt the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) SCRIPT version 10.6 standard, in its attempt to drive the meaningful use of electronic health records (EHRs). Allscripts Chosen to Support Iowa Health System’s Statewide ePrescription Initiative

Allscripts and Iowa Health System, a community-based healthcare organization, have joined hands to begin an ePresciption initiative, ePrescribe Iowa, which will enable the health system’s physicians to transform from paper-based to electronic prescription. The agreement, which is a part of an effort to reduce medical errors for enhanced patient safety, will see Allscripts deliver its Web-based ePrescription solution for free, along with personalized outreach and training for the physicians.
