Wireless medical devices have become ubiquitous within the healthcare industry. The need for electronic medical records almost necessitates that any device connected to a patient must also be connected to a network. Having nearly a decade pass since the ratification of the IEEE 802.11b standard, wireless network connectivity of medical devices has become a lucrative and popular option. ABI research predicts that Wi-Fi in healthcare will total $4.19 billion in 2014, an increase of 70 percent from today’s figure. This is in part due to a projected $20 billion in government stimulus funds. Read more
Cerner and CareFusion Collaborate for Better Medical Device and HIS Interoperability

The collaboration is anticipated to enable nationwide cross-enterprise sharing of both patient clinical and imaging data through a health information exchange (HIE)-capable archive solution. Orion Health’s Rhapsody™ Solutions Aid Health Agencies in Managing Disease Outbreaks

With health surveillance being the cornerstone of decision making for public health, Orion Health Inc. has developed the Rhapsody™ Public Health Integrator (PHI) platform to enable public health authorities to electronically report health information. The platform will help automate reporting by allowing the collection and consolidation of data from the regional laboratories, hospitals, and clinics. Sweden Jumps on National EHR Bandwagon

Sweden has completed the first stage of the Swedish National Patient Summary project (NPÖ) following the successful deployment of the Swedish national health record. The NPÖ project has leveraged InterSystems Corporation’s InterSystems HealthShare™, a health information exchange software platform, for the creation of Sweden’s first national electronic health record (EHR). The project is managed by the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR) through the Swedish healthcare advisory organization, Sjukvårdsrådgivinge SVR AB. Read more
