New Bill to Improve Veterans’ Medical Data Accessibility

Recognizing the cumbersomeness of healthcare information transfer process from military to civilian life, Congresswoman Niki Tsongas has introduced a new legislation, which would help veterans access their military records, service, and benefits data securely and electronically. Through the Improving Veterans’ Electronic Transition Services Act (iVETS Act), the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) would develop a Web-based portal to facilitate this capability. The portal will be based on the Defense Knowledge Online, a system that allows access to Official Military Personnel Files by all members in active duty until they become veterans. Read more

Wireless medical devices have become ubiquitous within the healthcare industry. Having nearly a decade pass since the ratification of the IEEE 802.11b standard, wireless network connectivity of medical devices has become a lucrative and popular option. ABI research predicts that Wi-Fi in healthcare will total $4.19 billion in 2014, an increase of 70 percent from today’s figure.
