Pediatric Hospital Selects eClinicalWorks Solutions for Community Physician Network

January 9, 2009

Children’s National Medical Center (Children’s), one of the leading pediatric hospitals in Washington, D.C., has selected the combined eClinicalWorks® electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management (PM) solutions for its Children’s IQ NetworkSM, to connect community pediatricians to the medical center.

eClinicalWorks, a privately held company and leading ambulatory clinical systems provider, offers integrated eHealth and revenue management solutions to enable the seamless electronic transformation of care practices. Some of the recent implementations of the eClinicalWorks EHR/PM solution were at RiverStone, a leading provider of personal and public health services operating the largest federally qualified health center (FQHC) in Montana, and New Jersey-based FQHC, Horizon Health Center. The Company has received the 2008 CCHIT certification for its EMR solution. It has witnessed a compounded annual growth rate of more than 100% year to year, over the past five years, and has an established a customer base of about 20,000 providers across 50 states.

Children’s National Medical Center has been providing pediatric care for more than 135 years and has been placed at the 11th position in the U.S. News & World Report’s list of best pediatric institutions in the country. Children’s IQ Network system is the first network of its kind in Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region; whereby community pediatricians will be connected to Children’s National Medical Center, through eClinicalWorks’ EMR.

According to Mark Weissman, Medical Director of Children’s National Health Network, the system will connect and improve the quality of care for children, and at the same time help in identifying any clinical and administrative issues affecting efficiency. The network aids authorized pediatricians of Children’s to get connected to its seven D.C. primary care clinics, D.C. foster care program, and mobile medical vans, through the deployed solutions. Other community pediatricians willing to be part of the network could also get connected.

The integrated EMR/PM solutions of eClinicalWorks will be executed using the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, through which pediatricians will be able to access the centrally located system through Internet. The physicians will also have access to Enterprise Business Optimizer (eBO) for generating customized clinical and financial reports using meta-data.

The system will focus on interconnecting healthcare providers for quality care to children and further use eClinicalWorks Electronic Health eXchange (eEHX®) community health record to connect public schools, foster care programs and mobile medical vans, along with immunizations registries, commercial labs and other regional health care providers. The physicians will be able to exchange data efficiently and have access to patients’ health information at a community level, through the eEHX community record.

The eClinicalWorks system will also provide e-Prescribing and area specific vaccine registry information for Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia communities. Interfaces with Children’s inpatient Cerner system; commercial laboratory systems, and Sage Intergy EMR, in practices owned by Children’s; and the HealthMaster EMR to be used by 172 schools in the District of Columbia, will further ensure Continuity of Care for children in the region.

eClinicalWork’s Electronic Medical Record solution facilitates physicians to manage patient flow, access patient records in-house or remotely and securely share information among physicians. Integrated with its practice management solution, eClinicalWorks EMR helps review and complete patient medical histories and deliver coordinated patient care. It offers healthcare quality measures and patient disease management tools using built-in registry reporting.
