SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium to Deploy Orion’s Rhapsody
December 5, 2008
SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC), which provides health services to 18 remote Alaskan native communities spread across Southeast Alaska, has opted for Orion Health’s Rhapsody™ Integration Engine. SEARHC will leverage the Rhapsody Integration Engine so as to continue to access its legacy applications, while at the same time implementing newer technology solutions.
Founded in 1975, SEARHC was established under the Indian Self-Determination Act, which is aimed at routing all Indian Health Service (IHS) programs and facilities over to tribal management. The organization is one of the oldest and largest native-run health organizations in the United States. It is involved in a vital systems transformation project to consolidate all health and business functions into a single comprehensive, computerized record system.
Rhapsody was chosen to help SEARHC interface its electronic health record (EHR), radiology, pharmacy, laboratory and business solutions for seamless communication. The integration engine will also be used to extend SEARHC’s connectivity to other statewide health information systems such as VacTrAK, the immunization registry of the State of Alaska; and AKAIMS, the information system and clinical documentation tool used by substance abuse treatment agencies.
Rhapsody Integration Engine, a best in KLAS® solution, organizes and streamlines data exchange across a wide range of platforms and among several healthcare applications, databases and systems, irrespective of data format. Some of the features of Rhapsody include its standard Java technology and exported developer APIs, which enables multi platform compatibility. Also, designed to meet the specific needs of healthcare integration, the solution provides Web-based monitoring tools for issue management and drag-and-drop system configuration options for routing and processing. The embedded message store in the solution is designed for effective traceability and optimal performance. The Integration Engine also includes Orion Health’s Symphonia Integration tools, to help organizations rapidly develop and deploy messaging interfaces to applications.
The integration engine was recently chosen by the National Guard Health Affairs (NGHA) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as a standard tool for integrating information systems. It is also installed at the Vermont Health Information Exchange, Maine’s HealthInfoNet, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), etc. At OHSU, Orion’s Rhapsody engine carries out exchange of approximately 3 million messages per day. Orion Health has more than 1,000 clients worldwide and generates about 85% of its revenue from international sales. With a significant presence in the US, it also has its market presence across Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The vendor’s partners include leading health system integrators and IT vendors such as Accenture, IBM, Oracle Corporation, Sierra Systems and others.
Some of the interface engines available in the health IT market include Eclipsys eLink, Intersystems Ensemble, Oracle SOA Suite, Quovadx Cloverleaf, and Siemens OPENLink.
