Merge Healthcare unveils Online Software Exchange Program

December 6, 2008

Merge Healthcare, a provider of medical imaging solutions, has unveiled its eFilm Software Exchange program, an online community, launched in an effort to promote the development of applications revolving around its eFilm diagnostic imaging workstation. Merge’s eCommerce Website would enable its online community members to develop and distribute applications related to eFilm. The new community will be hosted at www.eFilmApps.com, through Merge Healthcare’s eStore.

The software exchange program, believed to be a new model in the medical imaging industry, will create an opportunity for eFilm clients, developers and Merge Healthcare to collaborate on new ideas, information and expertise for new developments. The community site will display Merge Healthcare software along with third-party solutions, and allow participants to exchange solutions as freeware, or offer them for sale. The site will showcase visualization, workflow and integration applications. Merge will also provide its hospital information system/radiology information system (HIS/RIS) software development kit that allows organizations to incorporate eFilm into the existing clinical workflow, with options to include new features within the eFilm.

The eFilm software exchange program will also see Merge partnering with software developers, certifying the applications and integrations before sale, to ensure strict compliance with FDA, CE and other related industry guidelines. Collaboration through such online communities around specific products is expected to add value to the function and scope of the solutions and accelerate the pace of new application development. Through the current freeware/commercial online community model, Merge Healthcare is expected to help developers extend their reach to its eFilm Workstation global installation base across a wide market range.

The vendor, with a track record of 21 years, provides solutions for radiology practices, outpatient imaging centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and device manufacturers, worldwide. To validate eFilm user licenses and assure the ongoing integrity and value of eFilm, the company introduced the eFilm Amnesty program earlier this year. For the third quarter of 2008 ending September 30th Merge recorded net sales of $14.6 million, compared to $14.1 million for third quarter 2007.
