ALERT: Cape Cod Healthcare Selects Siemens IT Solutions to Connect Healthcare Network
December 17, 2009
With the intent of improving efficiency of care delivery and community wellness for its residents, Cape Cod Healthcare has entered into a seven-year health IT agreement with Siemens Healthcare. Through the contract, Cod Healthcare will deploy Siemens’ health information system, Soarian® across its health network. Most of the installation is anticipated to be completed by mid-2011.
As one of the leading health service providers in the Cape, the facility has under it the Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital, two-acute care hospitals; the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), an assisted living facility, home health service agency; and many other health programs.
Several goals of the healthcare system are said to have driven the current deal: the intent to incorporate barcode technology for addressing human medication errors; set up a system to establish itself as a recognized healthcare organization; and prospective benefits gained from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act’s HITECH provision.
Soarian manages workflow processes, to help promote collaboration across healthcare facilities and standardization, and reduce handoffs to achieve more predictable and measurable performance. The Soarian solutions chosen for implementation include Soarian Financials, Device Connect, Analytics, Clinicals and Scheduling. Cape Cod Healthcare will also install Siemens’ NOVIUS® Radiology and Lab, Med Administration Check, and Siemens Pharmacy, and other solutions offered by the vendor.
Siemens visualizes healthcare workflow as the movement of patients, resources, and information across the care continuum. The company’s IT solutions are designed to support healthcare enterprises with the ability to converge required data, orders and documentation at point-of-care, and facilitate enhanced interaction and collaboration among the caregivers for informed decision-making.
Siemens’ Soarian solutions have recently been deployed at Ingalls Health System and St. Peter’s Hospital, Bethesda Health Systems and UMass Memorial, MedCentral Health System, Greenwood Leflore Hospital, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital Medical Center, Franklin Medical Center, and others.
Touted as the first integrated healthcare company, Siemens Healthcare employs around 48,000 people across its global offices to deliver medical information technology, imaging, and laboratory diagnostic solutions for the international healthcare industry. Siemens Healthcare, which recorded profit of about 1.5 billion euros (US$ 2.15 billion) and revenue of 11.9 billion euros (US$17.06 billion), for 2009 fiscal year ended September 30th, plans on fortifying its competitiveness in the industry through cost management and reducing complexity.
