Open Source Technology in Healthcare
November 18, 2009
Open source is an innovative software development approach that allows accessibility to a software’s source code to the general public, under moderate or zero copyright limitations. By providing access to the software source code, an open source project provides an opportunity for designing, modifying, customizing, and distributing the software. This helps the users overcome the challenges of product rigidity, vendor lock-in, complex licensing terms, as well as cost related issues.
